Fishermans Beach by Nadine Jolley

Features

ARTIST NOTES: This lithograph is a depiction of Fishermans Beach on the Mornington Peninsula where I used to live. I would swim out to this post in the ocean directly outside my house and if I made it all the way - the next goal was to try to touch the sand bottom of the ocean floor. I only made it all the way to the post a handful of times.

ARTIST BIO

Born in Brisbane, raised on the Mornington Peninsula and now based in South Australia, I work from images recorded on digital camera of the places that I have visited.

I have been making art for around 20 years and I have refined my technique to a point where capturing a visually accurate representation of the place is not my aim. Rather, creating adaptations of places visited by making works exploring various techniques including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography.

The representation within the final image is a reminder of the impression of being at this place, or felt upon reflection of the visit.

Working in this way, it forces me to let go of how I think the image will work or look. To use the areas that slip away, overlap and blend into each other, helps me arrive at the point in each work where it stops being about the photograph and arrives into a work in and of itself.
